I've been opening my calendar each week for video calls with whoever books a time. It's been amazing. Thursday is now my favourite day.
We can have half an hour to talk about whatever you want. No agenda is required, no need to mail first.
Things that work well:
- Feedback on new ideas, startups and concepts
- Informal pitches from people who I might work with in future
- Old friends and colleagues catching up
- Curiosity about how we could work together
- Sharing ideas, a project, or just a chat
Office hours started within universities - professors opening their doors for drop-ins. These evolved into the tech world as open calendars for networking and mentoring. The coffee-break conversation, digitised: the open chat that leads to the happy unexpected.
The "un-office" is a signal of informality. A place to allow serendipity to unfold.
